Welcome to the West Babylon Teachers Association webpage. This site
is designed to meet the needs of members of the WBTA. However, many
others in the community may find the information useful. In addition
to containing union and educational information for the members of
the WBTA, our site contains links to many other educational and
union related websites.
The West Babylon Teachers Association is recognized by the State of
New York, and the West Babylon Board of Education as the exclusive
bargaining agent for all West Babylon teachers. We presently
represent over 400 staff members. Our local organization is
affiliated at the state level with the New York State United
Teachers (NYSUT) and the national level with the American Federation
of Teachers (AFT). The AFT is a member organization of the AFL-CIO.
The WBTA’s structure of governance includes five elected officers,
one appointed position, and the Executive Committee. The elected
positions are President, Elementary Vice President, Secondary Vice
President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Assistant Treasurer was
appointed by the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is the
main governing body of the
WBTA and includes all officers, building representatives,
chairpersons of standing committees, RA delegates, and NYSUT/AFT
delegates.
The WBTA represents the teachers, teacher assistants, technologists,
occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists,
Coordinator of K-12 Student Data & Instructional Technology,
Director of Athletics, Health, & Physical Education, library-media
specialists, guidance counselors, and professional nurses of West
Babylon in collective bargaining situations and all matters that
pertain to the collective bargaining agreement.
Furthermore, it is through our efforts towards coalition building
and other outreaches and participation at various levels of decision
making that guarantee the teachers a voice in matters of
professional concern within our District, and distinguishes the WBTA
as a professional association that takes an active role in the goals
and visions of the West Babylon School District.
We welcome you to the WBTA webpage and look forward to your
suggestions to help make this a place that meets your needs and
gives you timely information.
